        What Is Pilates?

If you’re looking to get back to normal life without pain, improve your sporting performance, or an exercise that not only builds strength, improves flexibility and makes you more ‘body aware’, then Pilates is an ideal exercise for you. Pilates helps you to develop core strength and overall flexibility and is one of the finest ways of improve your posture and enable you to move easily with less effort.

The person at the core of the Pilates movement is Joseph H Pilates. Born in Germany in 1880, Pilates suffered from rickets, asthma and rheumatic fever. Rather than lying down to his issues, he worked to find a solution. In fact it was his suffering that inspired him to devise an exercise regime that restored his body to its previous fitness levels. Using a combination of principals of yoga, Zen meditation and the rigorous exercise regimes of the ancient Greeks and Romans, he restored and trained his body with great success, becoming an exceptional athlete and teacher of movement. With Pilates, you can do the same.

At the Physio Centres, we run a range of Pilates classes, from 45 minute Lunchtime Blitz sessions to get a quick fitness fix in your lunch break to Clinical Pilates classes aimed at serious rehabilitation.
