Gentle Gym at the Physio Centres Edinburgh offers a safe and unique program to bring an achievable and fun exercise routine into your life. The classes are designed for seniors who are looking for a gentle way to improve their fitness, become stronger and more agile.
Gentle Gym aims to increase flexibility, joint stability, balance and coordination as well as improving muscular strength and cardiovascular endurance. Our Gentle Gym program can help you manage or lessen the impact of conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, osteoporosis, arthritis and depression.
Our instructors are experienced physiotherapists that will focus on providing you with an exercise programme to give you a gentle introduction to an active lifestyle whilst aiding mobility and improving the quality of your life.
The Gentle Gym program focuses on 3 areas: balance, strength and flexibility. Balance exercises can make it easier for you to mow the lawn, climb stairs and do other daily activities. Strength exercises include using resistance bands and sticks. They can increase muscle strength to help with activities such as carrying groceries or lifting grandchildren. Stretching, or flexibility exercises, can give you more freedom of movement for bending to tie your shoes or looking over your shoulder as you back out of the driveway.
Even if you haven’t been active previously, the Gentle Gym class is ideal to get you started and keep you active. We know that people want to live independently for as long as they possibly can. By exercising regularly and including more physical activity in your daily routine, you can preserve your physical function, which is key to being able to do the everyday things you want to do.
